Message From The Founder

The world’s population is projected to grow significantly over the next decade, though growth will be uneven across regions. This expansion will have major consequences for demographics, resource allocation, and long-term development. Developed countries are grappling with aging populations, while developing countries will be home to youthful populations filled with aspirations. A larger population will demand stronger healthcare systems, robust and high-quality education, and a steady supply of jobs to meet future employment needs.

Education remains the cornerstone of social mobility and economic independence. The Mincer Function, named after labour economist Jacob Mincer, demonstrates that an individual’s earnings are closely linked to years of education and work experience. Yet in many countries, children are unable to receive formal schooling because their families cannot afford fees or need them to help at home. Without education, these children remain trapped in cycles of poverty, unable to climb the socio-economic ladder.

Here in Singapore, we are fortunate to have a literacy rate of over 99%, with nearly all children completing at least secondary education. Our schools are widely recognised as among the best in the world, with students excelling in mathematics and science. Still, more can be done to help underprivileged children realise their full potential—not only in academics but also in the arts, sports, creative design, and entrepreneurship.

Through the Stephen Riady Group of Foundations, I hope we can make a meaningful difference by improving the lives of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds through Education, Empowerment, and Engagement. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to develop their talents fully, regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic background. Education empowers individuals to pursue their dreams, secure good jobs, and engage meaningfully with society.

Beyond giving, I hope the Foundation will serve as a reminder to future generations to keep giving back to those less fortunate. Together, we can achieve much more for society.

Sincerely yours,

STEPHEN RIADY
